Let me introduce myself, my name is Susan and I am your guide through Cardmaking-Companion. This page is all about us......

Cardmaking-Companion aims to tell you everything there is to know about card making, with articles for the rank beginner to the experienced card maker.

Through this site we aim to give you the confidence to try out new card making techniques and to develop further, ones you might already have.

Cardmaking-Companion has been born from my love of card making. A love which sprang fom a chance encounter....

.....A few years ago I was on a day's retreat organised by my church. There were a number of activities which we could participate in and yes you've guessed it one of those was card making!

In one half hour session I produced my first ever card - a peel off on acetate, mat and layered with an embossed message inside. I still have it and here it is.....

As you can see it's all wonky but at the time that didn't matter - my love affair had begun!

From that humble beginning I am now part of a team which makes and sells cards for charity. We are doing something we enjoy and with our card making we are making a difference.

Through Longton Community Church we support children in Mbarara, Uganda.

If you've just checked out the website you'll realise we're based in the UK in a large village just outside of the city of Preston.

To us Longton is the perfect place -we're just 4 miles from a city but we still have a village feel around us. Within Longton we have Longton Brickcroft - a disused brickworks which a number of years ago was turned into a wetlands nature reserve.

I would challenge anyone not to be moved by the beauty of the top pond in the early morning light- in fact whatever time of the day you go there, there is always something different to see and reflect upon.

Owning an energetic Dalmatian means that we get to see quite a lot of the Brickcoft!
