Use Your Accordian Fold Cards to Tell A Story.....

Accordian Fold cards are just like their description suggests - they have multiple folds in them and open out like an accordian!

There is a lot work in a good Accordian Fold card so when you send it to someone you're telling them that you think a lot of them.

One way of making an Accordian card work effectively is to colour theme the card - See "Creative Colour" for ideas of schemes that will work well.

Start at the front cover, and work your way through each of the inside panels. Be creative as you work and use colour co-ordinating embellishments on each page. Perhaps choose a theme such as flowers and make each page different.

If you own a Cricut machine and have the "Happily Ever After" cartridge, then one of the most effective Accordian Cards we have ever seen was "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs". A massive amount of work but truly stunning!

To make an Accordian Fold Card:

1. Decide how many panels you want to have in your card , and how big you want each panel to be. Make sure the piece of card you are working with is going to be big enough and if it isn't you will have to join another piece to it.

2. Carefully measure and mark with a pencil where you want each fold to be. If you are working with a piece of joined card make sure the join is at one of the fold edges so it won't interrupt the flow of the card.

3. Working from the left hand side using your metal ruler and a fine tipped embossing tool gently score down the first fold line.

4. Flip the card over and on the other side score down the second fold line.

5. Flip the card over again and score down the next fold line.

6. Carry on flipping back and forwards until you have scored all the folds.

7. Before you fold, decorate the panels as you wish - starting at the left hand side on panel 1.

IDEA: You can either decorate each panel or every other panel - you choose!

TIP: By scoring on alternative sides of the card the folding will be easier.

8. Carefully fold the card, turning it over at each fold.

When you have folded all the panels your card is finished!

IDEA: If your card is quite bulky a nice finishing touch is to incorporate a co-ordinating ribbon around the card to keep it neatly closed.

It is unlikely that your finished card will fit into a standard envelope. We suggest you create a co-ordinating Card Box to give your work the professional finish.
