Use a Brayer and Let Your Imagination Run Away With You.......
A Brayer is a rubber roller, rather like a miniature paint roller. It is a great addition to your cardmaking repertoire and fits perfectly with rubber stamping. You can use it to create great backgrounds for your cards or if you have a particularly large stamp it can be used for inking up.
Using the Brayer for Inking:
1. Hold your inkpad securely, either on your work surface or in your hand. 2. Run the brayer up and down the inkpad so that the whole of the roller gets covered in ink. 3. Put your rubber stamp flat on your work surface and run the roller up and down it. 4. Stamp as normal. TIP: Make sure the surface of the stamp is evenly covered with the ink. If necessary re-ink your roller. Using the Brayer to create a Background: Beautiful backgrounds can be created with the brayer by using a multi-coloured inkpad. These type of inkpads are available in a wide range of shades from the brights to the muted. You can get multi-coloured inkpads which have one solid pad with the colour graduated across it. You can also get ones which comprise of mini pads which you have to snap together to use, and then separate for storage purposes. 1. Hold the inkpad firmly and run the roller over the pad in one direction only. 2. Put the roller back to the original starting place on the inkpad and roll again. Keep repeating this until the whole of the roller is loaded with colour. 3. Cover your work surface with some scrap paper before starting to ink up your card as you will need to roller over the edges of the card to make sure it is properly coated with ink. 4. Continue inking and rollering until you are happy with the resulting design. TIP: Press down firmly on the roller to get good results.
