Card Making Inserts Are A Great Card Making Idea......
Card Making Inserts are great to use in your Creative Card Making. They are what can transform your "nice" handmade card into a very special one.
Putting an insert into a card is a very easy thing to do but is something so many cardmakers seem to overlook.
To make your own card making inserts simply go to a stationery supplier and buy a ream of 80gsm mixed pastel coloured papers. They are really cheap and make such a good impact. For certain cards a white insert would be more appropriate and normal inkjet printing paper will work fine for these. The beauty of an insert is that its measurement does not have to be exact - just cut it slightly smaller than the size of the card it is being made for so the colour of the original card acts a frame to the insert. To fix the insert into the card we recommend using the narrowest double sided tape you can find. Having folded the insert into half, run a strip of double sided tape either side of the fold, as close to the fold as you can get. Pull the backing off the tape and then carefully stick one side of the insert down onto the card and then carefully close the card and the other side of the insert will automatically stick to it. Although a plain insert looks good , one where you have let your card making ideas run riot will look even better! Prior to sticking the insert in you can get to work with your Punches. 1. You can punch a motif along the outside edge of the insert (as shown in the illustration). 2. Punch a motif in the bottom right hand corner of the insert e.g. a butterfly on a Spring themed card. 3. Punch a motif on all 4 corners. 4 Using a border punch create a fancy edge along the insert's side edges. You can also Rubber Stamp a message inside the insert or carry on the design from the front of the card. As in all creative card making - the decision is yours - try out a few ideas and see what works best for you.
A lot of people like to make large cards for special occasions. However if you use an A4 sheet of paper to create your insert it can look rather lost inside a larger card. A simple way of getting round this is to punch a border for each side of the insert, as shown in this photograph. I normally punch 2 borders, one for the left hand side and one for the right hand side. The border can be punched from the same design/ colour card as the insert or if you prefer you could punch it from a complimentary colour - the choice is yours!
