Making Christening Cards - Special Cards for a Special Day.........
What do the words Christening Day mean to you?
For most people they conjure up images of babies being "christened" in a Church ceremony. For some families this is a meaningful Christian experience whilst for others it is "what you do" if you have a young baby. However people get Christened at any age. When you are going to make a Christening Card you need to consider the circumstances surrounding the ceremony and then make an appropriate card. Recently we got a request to make 2 cards: One for a baby boy and one for his 9 year old brother, both were being Christened on the same day. The challenge was to make 2 cards which were age appropriate but were special enough to become keepsakes.
Anita created the baby's card by Embossing the stamped image, using a silver embossing powder. She then matted and layered this onto an embossed piece of white card. The embossing was done using using a Cuttlebug embossing folder. This in turn was matt and layered onto a piece of pale blue linen textured card. Again this was matt and layered, but this time onto the main white base card. Finishing touches were added with a silver peel off cross and butterfly, and a matt and layered sentiment.
For the 9 year old's card, Anita created the same background as in the previous card i.e she matt and layered the pale blue linen card onto a plain white base card. The Christening "balloon" was created by using 3 different sized classic inverted scalloped circle, small, Nestabilities on 3 different backgrounds, with a peel off sentiment. These were matted and layered and then 2 complementary ribbons were added. The finishing touch was made by adding the silver cross and sentiment peel offs.
Both cards work extremely well and were exactly what was wanted. Had the cards been intended for girls then the background card would have worked with a pale pink linen effect.
