Craft Storage: Organisation is the Key!......
If there is a down side to card making then it has to be how and where to keep all your "goodies" - With Craft Storage organisation really is the key!
When you first start out card making you will probably only have a few basic items, some card and papers and maybe a couple of rubber stamps. However before you know you'll be knee deep in glorious card making supplies (okay maybe that is a bit of an exaggeration! The secret to successful Craft Storage is to get organised right from the start.
Whether you are crafting at the kitchen table or are lucky enough to have your own craft room try to sort out a system that not only works for you but fits easily into your available space. There are so many storage solutions on the market today, ranging from cheap plastic trolleys which you can wheel from room to room, to bespoke cabinets and drawers. Whatever your budget you will be able to find something to suit your pocket. If you are just starting out and are not sure whether you want to initially invest too much money then look at what craft storage solutions you already own, or buy cheap plastic boxes and containers from your local supermarket. If you like to indulge in takeaway meals don't throw the containers they come in away. If you wash the plastic containers thoroughly they can be used to store card embellishments, or embossing powders etc. One of the biggest crafting nightmares is when your ribbons get all knotted and tangled together. Many manufacturuers have now come up with some great ribbon storage solutions.
Invest in one and keep it handy so that as you are making a card you can easily see which ribbon will enhance it. You can pay a lot for Background Papers so don't let them get dog eared- invest in some plastic 12" x 12" (or whatever size is suitable for your papers) boxes and color co-ordinate the boxes - this will save time in the future as you won't have to route around to find color matching papers. Sort your Rubber Stamps by theme ( i.e all foral stamps together, all Christmas ones etc) and then store them accordingly, either in plastic boxes or on shelves. Card Making Punches can be awkward to store due to their different shapes and levers - for a quick and cheap storage solution buy a multi pocket plastic shoe pouch for hanging on the back of a door. If it is big enough just use one pocket per punch or, again, sort the punches by theme and group them together.
