Flower Embellishments Add To Your Card Making........
Flower Embellishments add depth to your card making and there are very few card makers who won't use them at some time or another.
There are so many Flower Embellishments on the market that you will be spoilt for choice. You can choose from paper flowers, fabric flowers, flowers that you make up yourself;from single stem blooms to full bouquets - the list is endless. And on top of all those different types you can buy you can also punch out your own from flower punches. In life you get what you pay for, and flower embellishments are no exception to this rule - the price determines the quality of the product. However always keep your eyes open for discount bins or end of ranges. If price is an issue it might be worth your while investing in a couple of good quality flower punches which can be used over and over again. If you're looking for the "wow" factor then use multiple flowers or a bouquet of flowers:
This card was made for a wedding anniversary and I used lots of Mulberry Paper Roses around the rubber stamped image.
I am a real fan of these roses but a word of caution if you do use them.
As you can see from this side image (sorry it's a little blurred) the roses protrude from the card quite a way and as such they are not post, or envelope, friendly. They will fit into an envelope but this type of card really sits best in a handmade box, especially if you are going to post them. When posting a card like this always have the card weighed at the Post Office as it will not be a standard rate ( or at least that is the case in the UK).
Now if you really do want to make a statement a look at this amazing card from Sally Houghton:
This is taking Flower Embellishments to a whole new level!
The flower dominates the card, and because Sally has used a brad to secure the flower to the card the large petals add movement. A one word sentiment has been rubber stamped onto the front of the card - the simplicity of the sentiment helps to balance the flamboyance of the card.
This Ruby Wedding Card shows how using a single coloured bouquet can add to a very special card.
In this instance the stems have been left on the roses to make a tied bouquet and a silver charm has been added
In the last card the bouquet compliments the rest of the card, whereas in the card below (another one of Sally's) the small bouquet is the main focus of the card.
The beauty of this card lies in its simplicity - a simple rubber stamped sentiment finishes the design perfectly. This is a quick card to make yet it looks so elegant. By altering the sentiment this style of card could easily be turned into an invitation for a birthday party, engagement, wedding etc. Hopefully this has given you a flavour of the diversity of flower embellishments and the type of flower cards you can make with them.
