Pyramage -Taking Card Making to New Heights!.......

Pyramage, or Pyramid Decoupage as it is sometimes known, is a very quick and easy form of decoupage.

Quite simply you build the image on the front of your card and step it up like a pyramid. Normally this is done with 5 layers but sometimes 6 can be used.

Decide what you think looks best and go with that! - Just remember you can't get it wrong!

STEP 1: You can either use pre printed pyramage designs or you can create your own by photocopying a suitable image 5 or 6 times. Each image must be the same size and shape.

STEP 2: If you are using 5 images set 1 base image aside.

STEP 3: Flip the remaining 4 images over.

On the 1st one draw a 1cm border all around each edge. On the 2nd one draw a 1.5cm border; the 3rd, a 2cm border and finally on the 4th a 2.5cm one.

STEP 4: With your craft knife carefully cut along the lines you have drawn.

You should now have a set of 4 frames and 4 solid image "mats". Put the frames aside and we'll tell you what to do with them on the Reverse Pyramage page.

STEP 5: Put your base image onto your work mat and then start assembling the cut image mats using either silicone glue or sticky foam pads.

Affix the foam pads, or glue, to back of the largest image mat and layer that onto the base.

NOTE:If you do choose to use glue make sure that each blob is the same size so that your layers will not be uneven.

Continue working your way upwards through the mats until a pyramid starts to grow. Work carefully and make sure that you keep each layer straight - something that a lot of cardmakers fail to do!

Alternatively you can "twist" the pyramid - just like the card at the start of this page. This card was made from a bought kit which had each mat pre-cut.

STEP 6: Fix the pyramid to the front of your card - it's as simple as that!

TIP: The traditional shape as we've described is a square but why not experiment with different shapes such as circles or diamonds.
