Wire Embellishments Add Value to Your Hand Made Cards....
Wire Embellishments can add real value to your hand made cards because they are something a little different! You can buy them ready made or you can make your own.
For this card we used shop bought embellishments. The base card is in cream hammer card with a mottled beige Background Papers Mat and layered onto bronze mirror card. The 2 large hearts were cut using heart shaped Nestabilities run through a Cuttlebug. The card used to cut them from was was embossed purple with a bronze foiling design on it. The metal heart and wire embellishments were attached using PVA glue behind the solid heart. Finishing touches were the gemstones added to each corner and the co ordinating sentiment banner. To make your own wire embellishments you will need some craft wire. We suggest using either 22g or 26g wire. You will also need some Round-nosed Pliers for bending and shaping the wire. TIP: If you want a different finish to your wire try running it through a crimping roller to get a crimped effect before you start to shape the wire. TIP: Thread small beads onto the wire to add glamour or sparkle to it. If you want to create your own start with traditional shapes such as hearts or flourishes and as you get more competent be more adventurous. If your finished wire work is very fine any glue you use will spoil the effect so we recommend using some invisible thread to secure it to the card. Using a very fine needle carefully puncture the card either side of the wire. Just use a couple of stitches to secure it firmly. IDEA For Christmas, cover small sqaures with decorative paper and then wrap wire round them, finishing off the top wth a wire bow, to make Christmas parcels for the front of your cards. Using wire in your card making can be easily overlooked or some people think it can be too fiddly - we think the finished results are worth taking that bit of extra time!
