Getting to Grips with Heat Embossing.....

Heat Embossing enables you to give extra depth and texture to your card making.

Embossing Powder when heated with an Embossing Heat Gun melts and sets to create a raised outline or an all over shiny surface.

It is an effect you will find on many shop bought cards. By adding it to your own projects you too can create a professional look and feel.

Step 1: Wipe the card you intend to use with an anti-static bag. This will stop the embossing powder from clinging to parts of the card you don't want it to cling to.

Step 2:Rubber stamp the image you want to use.

Step 3: Before the ink dries gently sprinkle the embossing powder over the inked image. Make sure you cover all of the inked image and then gently shake off any excess powder onto a clean piece of paper.

Step 4: Using a heat gun heat up the powder. Move the heat gun slowly over the stamped image. As each section of the powder starts to melt move on to the next section. Be careful not to apply the heat in one spot for too long and this will over emboss and may burn or distort the card.

You should now have a lovely embossed image to use in your project.

Tip:If you don't have an anti-static bag you can use a clothes dryer anti-static sheet.

Tip:If you want to draw your own image for embossing or want to emboss your own handwriting you can use an embossing pen.

Tip: Don't try to use a hairdryer for heat embossing - the heat is not intense enough to melt the embossing powder properly.
